The Twin Falls School District (TFSD) extends its deepest gratitude to the community and the City of Twin Falls employees for their extraordinary generosity during the recent Avenues for Hope campaign. Together, donors raised $6,620, with an additional $2,213 contributed by the City of Twin Falls employees during their annual retreat, for a total of $8,833 to support homeless students through the district’s Angel Fund.

These funds will provide critical assistance to students experiencing homelessness, helping to meet essential needs such as:

  • Food gift cards for unaccompanied youth (minors living on their own without a guardian), ensuring they have access to proper nutrition and food items that they can prepare.

  • Supplies and equipment for extracurricular activities, allowing students to participate and feel included.

  • Laundry supplies, one of the most frequently requested items by families in need.

The TFSD serves approximately 350 students who qualify as homeless under the McKinney-Vento Act, which defines homelessness as lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes families living in shelters, motels, vehicles, or sharing housing due to economic hardship. Homelessness is a significant barrier to academic success, as not knowing where you will sleep at night impacts a student's ability to focus, participate, and thrive in school.

Additionally, 55% of TFSD families qualify for free or reduced meal prices, an indicator of the poverty affecting many in our community. The Angel Fund ensures that these students have access to resources they might otherwise go without, offering vital support to help them succeed despite challenging circumstances.

“Thanks to the compassion and generosity of our community and the City of Twin Falls employees, we can provide immediate assistance to students and families who need it most,” said Jenny Herzog, TFSDAt-Risk Coordinator. “Every dollar makes a difference in helping students overcome barriers and focus on their education.”

“We are grateful to our City employees for their generosity and compassion in supporting homeless students in our community," said Mayor Ruth Pierce, Twin Falls City Mayor. "By working together as a community we may not be able to end homelessness, but at least we can provide homeless youth with some support and stability.”

The TFSD will accept the donation from the City of Twin Falls Employees at the City Council Meeting on Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. at City Hall. The TFSD is committed to supporting all students and ensuring they have the tools and resources necessary for success.
